The $400 Reset Button That Didn't Work
Jul 20, 2026
I Spent $400 on a Hangover IV. Let's Talk About That.
Toward the end of my drinking, I got really good at damage control.
After a heavy night I'd wake up completely wrecked. Dehydrated, anxious, foggy, stomach in knots, ashamed. And the first thing I'd do was start looking for the fastest way to undo it. That usually meant calling an IV clinic. Sometimes they'd come right to my house. I'd load up on hydration, vitamins, glutathione, something for my stomach, whatever they'd give me. And I'd spend anywhere from $300 to $400 a session trying to erase what I'd done to myself the night before.
I want to be clear that I'm not putting down IV clinics. I still get IVs now, and they genuinely benefit me. But when I was getting them back then, I wasn't practicing wellness. I was practicing damage control. And there's a big difference.
Here's what I didn't understand at the time. You cannot magically undo a hangover. And here's why.
When you drink alcohol, your liver has to process it. Alcohol is ethanol, and your liver converts it into something called acetaldehyde, which is actually even more toxic than the alcohol itself. That substance is touching all the cells in your liver. And before your body can get rid of it, it has to work incredibly hard to break that down. While that's happening, everything else gets put on hold. Medications you're taking stop getting metabolized. Nutrients from food stop getting absorbed. Your liver goes into full red alert mode and says, I have to deal with this toxin first. Everything else waits.
That's why the morning after can feel so brutal. Your body isn't just recovering from a fun night out. It's recovering from a chemical burden you placed on it. So no amount of glutathione through an IV is going to erase that. It can't fix the poor sleep, the anxiety, the shame, the stomach issues, or the foggy brain. I know because I tried. A lot.
What I've come to understand now is that I was working incredibly hard at the wrong problem. I spent so much time and energy and money trying to figure out the best hangover recovery plan. Party supplements before I went out, electrolytes in the morning, greasy food, sweating it out at the gym, Advil, sleeping half the day. And not once did I think, what if I just didn't put the substance in my body in the first place?
That sounds obvious when I say it out loud. But that's the thing about gray area drinking. It's sneaky. You're not losing everything. You're holding down your job, taking care of your family, working out, doing the things. But behind the scenes you're building an entire recovery system around alcohol and calling it self care.
I want to ask you something I ask my clients. Are you working really hard to recover from drinking? Are you putting significant time, money, and mental energy into trying to undo the effects of alcohol? Because if the answer is yes, that's not a reason for shame. I call it a reveal point. It's information. And it's worth getting curious about.
What would become possible if you stopped trying to undo the damage and started removing the thing that causes it?
That's the question that changed everything for me. And the answer was more than I ever expected. Better sleep, less anxiety, money back in my wallet, my days back, and the real freedom of not needing a recovery plan anymore.
