From Glamorous Blogger to God: My Conversation with Christy Osborne

I'm still thinking about my conversation with Christy Osborne days later. You know when you have one of those conversations that just stays with you? This was one of them.

I've been watching Christy's journey for a while now. We were in the same coaching group together, and I remember thinking, "Wow, this woman is writing a book." And she didn't just write it—she recorded the audiobook, turned it into a course, created a 40-day fast, and now I'm going to be coaching alongside her in the Lent Fast starting February 18th. But more on that in a minute.

The Pink Door in London

Christy's story starts in London, where she was living this seemingly glamorous life as an expat blogger. Her blog was called "An American Girl in Chelsea," and let me tell you, it looked picture-perfect. Hotels, restaurants, spas were asking her to come review them. She made drinking look absolutely beautiful—champagne glasses, cute outfits, the whole aesthetic.

But here's the thing about Instagram-perfect lives: they're rarely the whole story.

Behind those glossy photos, Christy was struggling with postpartum depression after her son was born. She didn't have the language for it that we have now. She didn't tell anyone. But when she looks back at her drinking timeline, she can see a visible spike during that time. Alcohol became her way of coping with grief she didn't understand.

When Grief Gets Complicated

Then in 2018, Christy's mom passed away. And here's where the story gets really complicated—because her mom had started drinking heavily when Christy was in her mid-twenties, and it completely changed their relationship. The woman who had been her best friend became someone she couldn't even call after certain hours of the day.

Christy describes this layered grief so powerfully in our conversation. How do you grieve someone when you're still mad at them? How do you process a loss that feels like it happened years before the actual death? Her mom had even written her out of the will during a drunken night. Wild, right?

So Christy did what so many of us do—she drank through the grief. But she made it look really pretty while doing it.

The Divine Moment

March 9, 2020. Two years to the day after her mom's death.

The night before, Christy had been hosting (as usual—her pink door was nicknamed "Hotel California" because nobody was ever allowed to leave). She over-served, kept everyone late on a school night, and woke up the next morning absolutely wrecked.

Flowers arrived from her husband. Her cousin was texting because she knew it was the anniversary. Christy was scrolling through photos from the night before, hungover, sad, and so deeply depressed.

She walked into the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and said: "Jesus, I can't do this anymore."

She describes it as a divine moment. And here's what gets me—Christy had fallen so far from God at that point. She was the party girl. She wasn't going to church. Her marriage was falling apart (she had even called her dad saying she thought she was getting divorced). But in that moment of absolute desperation, the first thing that came out of her mouth was calling out to Jesus.

This was such a powerful conversation, and I know it will help other women who are struggling in similar ways.

Join Us for Lent

And this brings me to the really exciting part: Christy is running the Love Life Sober Lent Fast starting February 18th, and I'm going to be coaching in the community alongside her!

This is a 40-day journey with daily support, coaching, and a community of women who are all asking the same question: what would my life look like without alcohol?

The community includes:

  • Daily coaching and support (I'll be in there with you!)
  • A Bible recap group (I'm doing this too!)
  • Various membership options if you want to continue beyond the 40 days

The next fast won't be until October, so if you've been thinking about this, now is really the time.
